Over 200 Iranian Sailors Finally Return Home After Deadly US Torpedo Attack

More than 200 Iranian sailors who were stuck in Sri Lanka are now going back home. These sailors were stranded for more than a month after a serious attack at sea. It was a difficult time for them, as they were far from their country and waiting for help.

The situation began when an Iranian warship was attacked by a US submarine. The ship, called Iris Dena, was hit by a torpedo on March 4. A torpedo is a powerful weapon that moves underwater and can destroy ships. After the attack, the ship sank into the sea. This happened about 40 kilometers away from the southern coast of Sri Lanka.

The attack was very tragic. A total of 104 sailors lost their lives when the ship sank. Many families in Iran were deeply saddened by this loss. Later, the bodies of 84 sailors were found and returned to Iran by plane. This allowed their families to give them a proper farewell.

At the same time, another Iranian naval ship was also facing trouble. This ship, called Irins Bushehr, had an engine problem on March 5. Because one of its engines stopped working, the ship could not continue its journey safely. The crew requested permission from Sri Lanka to dock at one of its ports.

After several hours of discussion, Sri Lanka allowed the ship to dock at a port in the northeastern part of the country. The government made this decision to help save lives and provide support. This showed Sri Lanka’s willingness to help people in need.

The sailors from both ships were then brought to safety. Sri Lanka gave them 30-day visas so they could stay in the country legally. A visa is permission to stay in a country for a certain time. The sailors were also given a place to stay in navy and air force camps. These camps provided them with shelter, food, and security.

During their stay, the sailors waited for arrangements to return home. It was not easy for them to stay in a foreign country for so long, especially after such a frightening experience. However, Sri Lanka made sure they were safe and cared for.

On Tuesday night, the sailors were finally flown back to Iran. A total of 32 sailors from one ship and 206 from the other ship were able to return home. This brought relief to the sailors and their families, who had been waiting for their safe return.

However, not all sailors left Sri Lanka. About 15 Iranian sailors will stay behind. Their job is to operate the Irins Bushehr, which is still anchored near the northeastern coast of Sri Lanka. This ship will likely need repairs before it can leave.

The attack on the Iris Dena happened during a time of rising conflict. The ship had been returning from a military exercise that was hosted by India. This means the sailors were on their way back after training when the attack occurred.

A video released by the US Department of Defense showed the moment of the attack. In the video, the ship can be seen being hit. The back part of the ship rises up, and then there is a large explosion. This shows how powerful the attack was.

The sinking of the ship happened in international waters. This means it took place in an area of the ocean that does not belong to any one country. The incident happened just a few days after tensions increased between the US, Israel, and Iran. Because of this, the attack made the situation even more serious.

After the attack, Iran responded by launching strikes in different parts of the Middle East. These strikes targeted countries that are allies of the United States. This shows how one event can quickly lead to more conflict.

Sri Lanka’s role in this situation has been important. The country chose to help the sailors while also trying to stay neutral. Being neutral means not taking sides in a conflict. Sri Lanka has followed this policy for many years.

The president of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, said that the country would always try to protect human lives. He explained that helping the sailors was the right thing to do. He also said that Sri Lanka wanted to respect international rules and maintain its good reputation.

Sri Lanka has a long history of staying neutral in global conflicts. Since gaining independence in 1948, the country has tried to maintain friendly relations with many nations. It has strong ties with both Iran and the United States.

This situation shows how countries can work to help people even during times of conflict. Sri Lanka provided safety and support to the sailors without becoming part of the conflict itself.

In simple terms, this story is about a tragic event at sea and the efforts to help those affected. Many lives were lost, and many sailors were left far from home. But through support and cooperation, most of them were able to return safely.

It also shows how quickly situations can change in the world. A single attack can lead to bigger tensions between countries. At the same time, it reminds us that helping others in need is always important.

In the end, the safe return of the sailors is a positive outcome after a very difficult situation. Their journey shows both the dangers of conflict and the importance of kindness and support between countries.
